Madrid - A Spanish military base at Herat in western Afghanistan has come under rocket attack for the second time this month, although there were no casualties, the Spanish Defence Ministry said Saturday.

"Seven rockets were fired during the night" from Friday to Saturday, a statement said, adding that no-one had been injured in the incident. On ) August, six rockets were fired at the base.

The Spanish army has around 1,230 soldiers deployed as part of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).

Spain has maintained a contingent in Afghanistan since 2002, part of what is now the roughly 64,500-strong, 42-nation ISAF supporting the beleaguered Afghan government.
