MADRID-The Crown Prince Felipe and Princess Leticia will not attend the marriage of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles in Britain.

The Spanish Royal Household said they had previous engagements which prevented them from the attending the controversial wedding of the heir to the English throne in a registry office.

Instead Crown Prince Felipe and Princess Leticia will be attending the University of Salamanca, to carry out an honorary investiture of the president of Chile, Ricardo Lagos.

No other member of the Spanish Royal Family will attend in their place.

It is bound to be seen as a snub to Prince Charles and Parker-Bowles.

The wedding will take place on 8 April without the presence of the Queen of England, who will not attend the ceremony in a registry office which is judged too common for her.

She will attend the blessing ceremony later the same day and be at the reception at Windsor Castle.
