MADRID - The annual Spanish assault on the grass of Wimbledon got off to a flying start Monday as four players in the men's draw secured second-round berths.

Thirty-first seed Feliciano López overcame Brian Dabul in four sets, with 21st seed Juan Carlos Ferrero victorious by the same margin in his match against Sam Querrey. Albert Montañés and 22nd seed Fernando Verdasco required only three sets against Philipp Kohlschreiber and Carlos Berlocq respectively to seal their passages to the next round.

In the women's draw, Nuria Llagostera Vives was beaten in three sets by Elena Vesnina.
