Voters delivered a thumping to Spain's Socialist party Sunday, ousting them from power in the affluent Catalonia region in fury over an economic crisis, exit polls showed.

Catalans backed moderate nationalists, the Convergence and Union party, giving them 63-66 seats compared to 24-27 for the Catalan Socialist Party, in power in a coalition since 2003, said an exit poll by TV3 station.
