24 September 2004 MADRID - Spanish Eurofighters will join more than 100 other warplanes from 12 Nato nations in tactical war games scheduled to begin later this month across the country, the Spanish Defence Ministry said Friday. MADRID - Spanish Eurofighters will join more than 100 other warplanes from 12 Nato nations in tactical war games scheduled to begin later this month across the country, the Spanish Defence Ministry said Friday.
 
It will be the first time the Eurofighters will take part in an Atlantic Alliance exercise since the state-of-the-art planes recently joined the Spanish Air Force.
 
Along with the Spanish planes flying out of the Moron Air Base in the southern region of Andalusia, Harrier fighters from the Spanish carrier "Principe de Asturias", Nato Awacs, British Royal Air Force Tornados, French and Greek Mirage 2000s, US F-15s and Portuguese F-16s will also take part.
 
Other nations which have signed up for the DAPEX-VOLCANEX 04 manoeuvres are Germany, Belgium, Canada, the Netherlands, Italy, Norway and Sweden, a Defence Ministry spokesman said.
 
The aim of the war games is to practice air defence against an imaginary invader and fine tune cooperation in combat search and rescue operations, communications, logistics and force protection.
 
There will also be an offensive exercise an a bombing range located in the region of Navarra. The manoeuvres begin on 27 September and are to end on 8 October.
