MADRID - Spain had a cash surplus of EUR 436 million until the end of August, according to figures released Wednesday by the Treasury.

The figure represents 0.06 percent of the country's GNP.

But this meant the Spanish government had nearly 40 percent less cash, compared with the same period the year before, when the figure stood at EUR 720 million.

In terms of cash flow though, the Spanish state had an overall deficit, between January and August, of EUR 3.9 million or 34 percent less than the year before.
