Spain says Greek referendum wrong for Europe

The Greek call to hold a referendum on the eurozone debt rescue plan agreed last week is the wrong choice for both Europe and Spain, government spokesman Jose Blanco said on Tuesday.

Spain "respects government decisions, and in this case, the decision by Greece, even if it is undoubtedly not a good decision for Europe and not a good decision for Spain either," Blanco said.

In the Netherlands meanwhile, Prime Minister Mark Rutte expressed "worry" about the vote and said implementing the debt rescue plan was now more urgent than ever.

"The government is worried by the delay that could stem from uncertainty in Greece," Rutte wrote in a letter to the Dutch parliament.
