Another man in the eastern city of Valencia has contracted the deadly swine flu, says Spanish Health Ministry.

MADRID – Spain on Tuesday reported its second confirmed case of Mexican swine flu, in a man in the eastern city of Valencia.

Health Minister Trinidad Jimenez said the patient was recovering well and would be released from hospital "in the coming hours".

Jimenez on Monday confirmed that a 23-year-old man who returned from Mexico last week had also contracted the disease.

That was the first recorded case in Europe or outside the Americas of the epidemic that began in Mexico.

Dozens more people in Spain are suspected of having the disease after returning from trips to the central American country.

Britain late Monday became the second European country to confirm swine flu, in two people who were hospitalised in Scotland after travelling to Mexico.

Mexico said the number of confirmed and suspected deaths from the flu had risen to 152, while some 1,600 people were thought to be infected there.
