Spain raised 7.04 billion euros via an issue of 12-18-month bonds on Tuesday, slightly more than planned but it had to pay higher rates on the debt, the treasury said.

It said it issued 5.28 billion euros (6.9 billion dollars) in 12-month bonds at an average yield -- or return -- of 1.908 percent and 1.76 billion euros in 18-month bonds at 2.146 percent.

Both rates were higher than those assigned in August when the yields stood at 1.836 percent and 2.078 percent, respectively.
