Spain posted a 2010 public deficit of 9.24 percent of gross domestic product, just below its target of 9.3 percent, the economy ministry said Tuesday.

Spain has vowed to slash its public deficit to the EU limit of 3.0 percent of GDP by a 2013. It hit 11.2 percent in 2009, the third-highest level in the eurozone after Greece and Ireland which have both needed international bailouts.
