Spanish police on Friday arrested a Corsican nationalist suspected of killing four people on the French island, French investigators announced.

Guy Orsoni, the son of former Corsican nationalist Alain Orsoni, president of the Athletic Club AJaccio (L2) football club, was detained in Madrid after a joint operation by Spanish officers and members of a French police department dealing with fugitives.

Orsoni, who was wanted under a European arrest warrant since June 2009 when he went underground, was expected to be transferred to the French port of Marseille within a month.

One of those he is alleged to have killed is a firefighter who was shot dead in January 2009 in southern Corsica.
