MADRID - A 16-year-old soccer player remained in a serious condition yesterday, after a group of masked men interrupted the match in which he was playing and proceeded to attack the visiting team with baseball bats, golf clubs and other weapons.

The events took place during the 55th minute of a game between visitors Conil CF and home team Chiclana, when three masked men ran onto the pitch screaming "Get them!" and "Kill them!" before attacking members of the visiting team.

Although other players sustained injuries, Juan Román was the only person to be admitted to hospital, after suffering a head wound inflicted with a golf club.

The secretary of the home team, which is located in Cádiz, said the three men had been identified already and "have nothing to do with the sport." However, the Civil Guard is yet to make any arrests.
