MADRID - Civil Guard officers arrested six people yesterday morning accused of forming part of a corrupt property scheme whereby multi-million euro bribes were accepted in exchange for granting building licenses in Totana, Murcia.

Sources close to the investigation have told EL PAÍS that aside from the six detentions (three in Murcia, two in Pontevedra and one in Madrid), more arrests are likely to follow in the Murcia region in the next few days.

The same sources have confirmed that the ex-mayor of Totana and current regional congressman for the opposition Popular Party, Juan Morales, is also being investigated.
