MADRID — Three officials and a police officer have been arrested for granting permission to stay to illegal immigrants in return for cash or sexual favours.
An investigation by the police internal discipline unit uncovered the gang who were arrested on Monday.
The Spanish daily El Mundo reported investigation on Wednesday, saying one national police officer and three officials in the local government in Huelva in Andalusia, were detained.
The paper claimed if the officers liked female applicants they would demand sexual favours in return for permission to stay.
These sex acts were carried out in a car parked near the local immigration office.
One of those arrested was a woman.
The gang had been operating for a number of months, said the paper.
The magistrate in charge of the investigation, Francisco Herves, has ordered no more details of the case should be made public, as is often the case in Spain.
All four of those arrested have appeared in court and been released on conditional bail.
