PAMPLONA - Seventeen suspected members of the Basque terrorist organisation ETA have been arrested in a major police operation.
Police sources said those detained were thought to be part of ETA's logistical support network.
Five suspects were arrested in the Navarra region of the Basque Country.
They were three men and two women.
The operation is on-going and police said more arrests could follow later in the day.
The identities of the arrested suspects have not been revealed.
The operation was initiated on the orders of Spain's leading anti-terrorist judge, Baltasar Garzon.
The arrests were carried out in the early hours of the morning. All suspects were being taken to Madrid.
This is latest in a series of arrests of ETA suspects. Spanish and French anti-terrorist police have arrested at least 16 ETA suspects in the past three weeks.
