ALICANTE – A 14-year-old boy has confessed to murdering and sexually abusing a Norwegian student at his college, legal sources said Wednesday.
The semi-naked body of 14-year-old Shila Bigdley was found on 2 April near an urbanisation near the coast at Orihuela, near Alicante in south-east Spain.
Her lifeless body was naked from the waist down.
The teenager, who was a former student in the same college of the victim, has confessed to both crimes.
He appeared before a judge Tuesday to confess his crimes.
The boy's lawyer, Jesús Casero said the boy's confession was 'very short' and he only said 'It was me'.
DNA tests linked the teenager to the crime and proved he had sexually abused her.
"The forensic proof is very clear and for this reason we wanted my client to appear before the court yesterday," said Casero.
The lawyer said psychiatric tests were carried out on the boy to check what state of mind he was in. He is being held in a young people's detention centre.
The prosecution has asked for the maximum sentence of four years in prison and three years on bail.
It may take up to six months before the teenager can be dealt with in the courts.
Casero said the boy and the girl knew each other because they studied in the same college but apparently there was no problem between them.
The teenager, who is of Spanish nationality but German origin, is being examined to see if he was responsible for his actions. If so he could face four years in jail.
