MADRID - Rafael Nadal's dream of winning his second Dubai Tennis Championship was shattered on Thursday, when the Spaniard fell in the quarterfinals to US player Andy Roddick 7-6, 6-2.

Nadal, who beat Roddick the last time the two played, had difficulties returning the American's serve, and was aced on 14 occasions while also struggling with his own second service.

Feliciano López, who beat compatriot David Ferrer 6-4, 6-3 in their quarterfinal match, is the only member of the Spanish Armada to keep his tournament hopes alive. López, unseeded in the tournament, served 10 aces on his path to down the world number four.

López will now face the Russian Nikolay Davydenko - who yesterday beat Scotland's Andy Murray - in the semifinals.
