MADRID - Delays were already building up Friday on Spanish roads as holidaymakers left for the three-day break, traffic authorities said.
Five million people are expected to take to the roads this weekend to take advantage of the public holiday on Monday 1 November, for All Saints Day.
The General Traffic Authority (DGT) said the worst delays were in Spain's major cities, especially in Barcelona and Madrid.
In Barcelona, there were traffic jams on the B-20 in Espulgues de Llobregat, Sant Boi de Llobregat, and on the B-10 in Hospitalet and Sant Adria de Besos.
There were also hold-ups outside the city in Terrasa, Montcada and Reixac on the C-58.
In Madrid there were delays on the A-6 near Las Matas and on the A-2 in San Fernando de Henares.
