MADRID - Real Madrid is rumoured to be willing to pay - EUR 125 million for Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo, which would be the largest amount ever offered for a soccer player, and EUR five million more than the club had previously put on the table for the Portuguese forward, who currently tops the goal charts in both the Premiership and Champions League.

Real's Javier Saviola said he was not surprised by the amount, calling Ronaldo, "one of the best players in the world."

Last night Ronaldo set out to defend Manchester United's 2-0 lead over Roma in the Champions League quarterfinals.
