MADRID — The president of Real Madrid mocked David Beckham on Tuesday as "half an actor" as the former England captain headed to Los Angeles.
Ramon Calderon, chairman of 'Los Merengues', said the fact that Beckham was not courted by any top team demonstrated Real Madrid were right not to renew his contract.
Beckham has signed a contract to play this year for the LA Galaxy amid speculation he may one day launch an acting career in Hollywood.
Calderon said: "David Beckham is going to be half a film actor, living in Hollywood.
The proof of the rightness of our decision not to keep him has been ratified by all the clubs of the world. Because, once available, nobody wanted him".
Beckham who came to Real Madrid four years ago as one of their stars has been banned from playing for them again after it emerged he had already signed for the American club.
His move to the U.S. ends a disappointing era in Spain.
His wife, former Spice Girl, Victoria Beckham failed to settle into a new life and complained Spain "smelt of garlic".
