MADRID - A young man in his twenties was fatally stabbed yesterday in Madrid after a race-related riot broke out between two rival gangs at the Legazpi metro station.

Several others were reported to have been injured, including a policeman who was hit by a bottle and another person who was accompanying the victim.

Authorities said the man, who wasn't immediately identified, was stabbed in the heart. Some passengers were also injured when one band used tear gas to fight off their rivals.

Police said neo-Nazis and the so-called "Red Skin" gang members started the fight as they were on their way to a massive demonstration organized in downtown Madrid.

The victim was on his way to the demonstration in support of the immigrants.
