Pro-ETA plaque removed from town of Hernani
A Spain court ruling has ordered the plaque and signs named after a dead ETA member to be removed.6 June 2008
BILBAO - Police officers on Thursday removed a plaque and signs in the Basque town of Hernani pointing to a park named after a dead ETA member in compliance with a court ruling that declared them offensive to victims of terrorism.
The park had been named after José Manuel Aristimuño, alias Pana, an ETA member killed in a shoot-out with police more than 25 years ago.
High Court Judge Fernando Grande Marlaska ruled on Monday that by maintaining the name of the park, Hernani town hall was "praising terrorism" - a crime under Spanish law.
