BUDAPEST - Spain's crown prince met the Hungarian president Ferenc Madl Tuesday as part of an official visit to the country.
Prince Felipe and his wife Princess Letizia arrived in Budapest Monday on an official visit to promote bilateral relations via high-level contacts, which have been practically nonexistent in recent years.
The prince and princess were accompanied by Spanish education minister Maria Jesus Sansegundo.
The official portion of the state visit was due to take place Tuesday, when president Madl welcomed the royal couple with full honours at Sandor Palace.
The visit includes a series of political, cultural, economic and scientific events through Thursday, when the royal couple will leave for Madrid from the southern Hungarian city of Pecs.
On Thursday, Felipe will inaugurate a Hungarian-Spanish business forum in Budapest.
Hungary is one of the 10 mainly Central European nations that joined the European Union on 1 May, bringing the bloc's membership to 25.
