Portugal seized 1.5 tonnes of hashish Wednesday from a Spanish ship sailing off its southern coast, and arrested the two men on board, maritime police said in a statement.

Police found the 1,500 kilograms (3,300 pounds) of the drug in several packets on board the ship that they intercepted during a routine patrol off the coast of Vila Real Santo Antonio, near the Spanish border.

The two men, both Spanish nationals, have been detained.
