Portugal hands over ETA suspect to Spain
Portugal on Friday handed over a suspected member of Basque separatist group ETA to Spanish authorities, officials said.
Garikoitz Garcia Arrieta, who was the subject of a European arrest warrant, "was handed over to Spanish authorities at midday, at the border," a spokesman for Portugal's justice ministry told AFP.
Garcia Arrieta was arrested in northern Portugal in January along with another suspect, Iratxe Yanez Ortiz de Barron, shortly after escaping from Spanish police.
The two were caught in the Spanish province of Zamora driving a van containing explosives, firearms and documents.
Garcia Arrieta is accused of terrorism and theft of a vehicle, according to his lawyer.
In mid-March, a third suspected ETA militant was arrested in Portugal following the discovery of hundreds of kilos of explosives.
Spanish authorities believe ETA has started to move its logistical operations from France to Portugal.
