MALAGA – Police arrest 21 people on the Costa del Sol in connection with laundering millions of EUR250m earned from prostitution and drugs.
Among 12 addresses raided was the Marbella Club Hotel, which was once the haunt of Hollywood stars, European aristocrats and British royals.
Among those arrested as part of Operation Hidalgo were three notaries from a company in Marbella.
The arrests were in the Malaga area, sources close to the investigation said.
But the gang is thought to have international links.
It was not related to the earlier Operation Malaya, in Marbella.
This operation, which started last year, involved allegations of widespread bribery and corruption between Marbella city council officials and building promoters in the region.
The city council in Marbella was dissolved by central government and many members of the authority, including the city’s former mayor and head of urban development face a series of charges.
