BARCELONA - A man was killed after a shoot-out with police as he tried to rob a lorry with three others.
The 26-year-old died as he was being taken to the entrance of the General Hospital of Catalonia in Sant Cugat, a town outside Barcelona.
The shooting happened in Santiga de Barberá del Vallés in the early hours of Monday morning, police said.
The gang was surprised by a police patrol which happened to be nearby at the time.
At least four men had been about to rob a lorry when the shooting took place.
Two men were arrested then another was injured when an officer opened fire.
The Guardia Civil has launched an investigation into the fatal shooting.
Officers are to take part in a reconstruction of the incident in order to piece together what happened.
