MADRID — Police seized on Thursday more than 3 tonnes of cocaine after boarding a boat flying the British flag off Spain's Atlantic coast.
The specialist Central Drugs Squad boarded the boat which was sailing towards La Palmas in the Canary Islands.
The discovered 3.5 tonnes of cocaine hidden aboard.
Among those arrested aboard was Manuel Vázquez, who was previously linked to another drugs operation in which two tonnes of cocaine was found floating in the seas off the coast of Galicia.
Vázquez later claimed he had jettisoned the cocaine because a lawyer had failed to pay him for its transport.
Police arrested Spanish and Colombian crew.
