MADRID - Police have dismantled a cocaine laboratory in Hospitalet de Llobregat that was apparently being used to supply the Barcelona area with substantial quantities of the drug, authorities said Wednesday.

Officers arrested six people in raids on property linked to the cocaine ring that received the unprocessed drug from Colombia, cut it with other substances and then distributed it via a network of dealers around Barcelona.

Among the suspects is the alleged leader of the group in Spain, a 50-year-old Colombian man, and a Moroccan man who was apparently using the ring to sell hashish.

More than four kilos of cocaine and 120 kilos of hashish with an estimated street value of more than €600,000 were seized in the operation. Police also found receipts for several money transfers to Colombia of around €24,000 each.

News of the Barcelona bust came on the same day that police in Madrid said they had arrested a Spanish man at Barajas Airport attempting to enter the country with almost seven kilos of cocaine hidden in trousers in his suitcase.
