MADRID — Police were investigating other unsolved murders on Thursday after a German truck driver confessed to killing five prostitutes in France and Spain since 1999.
Volker Eckert, allegedly admitted to murdering three prostitutes in Spain and two in France.
But police are investigating if Eckert could be behind other murders which have so far not been solved.
The 47-year-old driver was arrested in Cologne last week after Spanish investigators had issued a European warrant for his arrest on suspicion of killing a prostitute in Spain.
The man from Hof near the Czech border told police he had murdered the Bulgarian prostitute and also claimed to have killed two other prostitutes in both Spain and France between 1999 and 2006.
During his interrogation the man told police he had taken photographs of his victims since 2003 and kept hair and parts of their clothing as souvenirs.
Police were able to find objects matching his description, including photos of dead women.
Authorities were also examining whether there is anything linking the man to murders of prostitutes in Hof.
