BARCELONA — Detectives in Spain are investigating the death of a Australian bar manager whose body was found in a Barcelona hotel room.

Bianca Heard, 28, was partying with a friend hours before her death on Sunday morning, the BBC reported.

Catalan Police are waiting for the results of a post-mortem examination but said her death was not violent.

An Australian flag has been hung alongside floral tributes outside a public in Brighton, in the UK, where she worked.

"She was an absolute livewire - full of life and full of joy," said Ms Heard's friend Karren Urben.

"She was compassionate and caring - she cared about the community. She was just brilliant."

Ms Heard, who came to the UK four years ago, was in Barcelona for a short city break.

Police said the cause of death would not be known until the results of the post-mortem and toxicology tests were known.

"She appears to have suffered some form of overdose but until we get the results we will not be able to say for certain which drug or mixture of drugs have led to her collapse and death," Sgt Isidoro Barbero said.

Police want to hear from a man who they believe left a nightclub in the city with Heard.
