MADRID — A police inspector was arrested in connection with trafficking illegal immigrants and prostitution.
Police said the officer, who was not named, was arrested at the frontier with France in Catalonia, north west Spain.
He is accused of bribery, human trafficking and collaborating with illegal immigration.
The officer was being questioned in Madrid.
No more details have been made public.
For months police unions have complained they have been struggling to cope with large number of illegal immigrants coming across the border into Spain from France.
They have protested at the lack of sufficient resources.
