MADRID — A man was shot dead in the street in broad daylight in a city in north east Spain on Thursday.

The young man was gunned down as he left his flat in Lleida, in Catalonia, just before 8am.

The gunman escaped and police have launched a hunt to catch him.

Police believe the gunman had been waiting for him outside the block of flats before the murder.

The name of the victim has not been released by police and no motive for the killing has been established.

A judge has ruled no more details of the investigation should be made public as is often the case.
