BARCELONA – Five police officers were charged on Wednesday with mistreating suspects after they were caught on secret cameras.

The officers, all from a station in Les Corts, Barcelona, have been suspended on full pay.

The officers include one corporal, two officers and two trainee officers. One is a female officer.

They are all members of the Mossos d’Esquadra, the regional Catalan police force.

They were caught on hidden cameras after an internal investigation was mounted because of a rise in complaints of abuses by police at this station from suspects.

The Catalan secretary general of the interior, Joan Boada, said the regional government “cannot tolerate” the abuse of suspects in custody.
