VIGO - Spanish police carried out a controlled explosion Thursday of a suspicious suitcase which had inflammable material inside, security sources said.

The explosion was carried out at the bus station in the Galician port of Vigo.

The bus driver found the suitcase at about 10.30am and called police, who at first believed it could have contained explosives.

However, later it emerged the suitcase contained inflammable material but not explosives.

The Basque terrorist group ETA carried out a series of small bombings in Galicia and other parts of northern Spain during August.
