BARCELONA — A woman was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the murder of three elderly women in less than a month.
The woman was named as Remedios S.S. who was said to be from La Coruna in northwest Spain.
She has been questioned after being detained in the street after police launched a huge hunt for a woman aged 45-55 years old and matching her description.
Two of the women were killed in their homes in the past three days, police said.
Police believe the woman gained the confidence of the three victims in order to get access to their homes and steal cash.
The first murder took place on 11 June in the Nou Barris area of the city.
Police named the victim as Josefa C.V. who was aged 83.
Officers suspect the same woman killed two other women, aged between 95 and 76 in the Eixample area since Friday.
All three women lived on their own.
The arrested woman has also been linked to a possible fourth murder.
