Madrid – Spanish police on Tuesday arrested a 64-year-old man after he allegedly fired five shots at the flag and coat of arms of the British consulate in the Mediterranean port of Malaga, police said.

The man, whose nationality authorities have not established, was upset because British authorities had denied him permission to visit Britain where his children live, police said in a statement.

He was detained in a car with British licence plates as he tried to flee the scene.

Spanish media reported that he was born in Beirut and had been detained in the past for making threats and falsifying documents.
