BILBAO — Spanish Guardia Civil officers have detained four suspected members of the Basque terrorist organisation ETA.
The four were named as Ignacio Pena González, 25, Sonia Marín Vesga, 32, Arkaitz Ormaechea Echevarría, 29 and Igor Cearreta Garay, 27, by the ministry of the Interior.
The latest arrests were a continuation of a series of arrests which started in November when 12 ETA suspects were detained.
Meanwhile, in Madrid, the trial was due to begin of three ETA suspects accused of planting a car bomb in 1994 which was timed to explode as an army lorry passed.
The ETA bomb attack proved unsuccessful.
Prosecutors have called for Mikel Azurmendi Penagaricano, Alvaro Juan Arri Pascual and Idoia Martínez García to serve over 600 years each for 30 attempted murders.
The operation in the Basque Country was still on-going, police sources said, and more arrests were expected later.
