PALMA - Spanish police arrested a suspected Kurdish terrorist who has been wanted by Turkish authorities for several years.
Judicial officials familiar with the case said Wednesday that the individual, identified only as Y.B., 36, was arrested around midday Tuesday at a hotel in Mallorca, where he was vacationing with a group of Germans.
The detainee, who has a German passport and lives in Hamburg, is waiting for his case to be taken up by Spain's National Court - a special tribunal that handles high-profile terrorism, drug and corruption cases and which is to decide whether or not to extradite him.
An international warrant for the suspect's arrest had been issued on Nov. 21, 2002, and signed by a Turkish judge.
Y.B. apparently belonged to the radical Kurdish group Dev-Sol. He is accused of participating in six attacks in Turkey, the last of which - carried out in Hadigan - killed two Turkish army officers.
