26 January 2006, GRAN CANARIA — Police have arrested 42 people for allegedly bringing Brazilian women to work as prostitutes in clubs in the Canary Islands.

GRAN CANARIA — Police have arrested 42 people for allegedly bringing Brazilian women to work as prostitutes in clubs in the Canary Islands.

The women were also used to smuggle drugs and guns into Spain, police said.

Those arrested included 12 Spaniards and a number of Colombians, Indians, two Brazilians, and an Argentinean.

Nineteen Brazilian women have been arrested for not have immigration permits.

The raids took place on the island of Gran Canaria where the women worked in clubs.
