MADRID - Police have arrested 41 people across Spain for distributing child pornography and harassing minors on the internet.

The operation, which was carried out simultaneously in 11 regions, was triggered by several emails received by the police's technology investigations unit from citizens alerting authorities of the existence of paedophile material on peer-to-peer file exchange networks.

Following an investigation, police located internet users who were sharing this material, which included photographs and videos, and conducted simultaneous home searches across the country.

Thirty-five suspects are charged with possession and distribution of paedophile material, while another six are accused of trying to harass minors into having either real or online sex with them.
