23 April 2007, MADRID - Spanish police arrested 15 people and confiscated 4,300 kilograms of hashish hidden in the cabins of a boat that was doing auxiliary work for the Spanish maritime salvage corps.

MADRID - Spanish police arrested 15 people and confiscated 4,300 kilograms of hashish hidden in the cabins of a boat that was doing auxiliary work for the Spanish maritime salvage corps.

The drug, which came from Morocco, was being shipped to Spain's Mediterranean island of Ibiza, where eight of the 15 people implicated in the case were arrested.

The suspects were taken into custody were of Spanish, Colombian, Romanian and Moroccan nationality and included the three crew members of the boat and the vessel's owner, the head of the drug trafficking network, eight people who were going to unload the hashish in Ibiza and two other men in the eastern city of Valencia and the northeastern city of Barcelona.

The police investigation of the network began in mid-January after indications were found of a drug trafficking outfit based in Levante and Catalonia. EFE
