TOLEDO-A couple of pensioners were killed in a blaze in an old people´s home.
The tragedy happened on Monday morning in the early hours at a village callled La orre de Esteban Hambran, near Toledo, to the south of Madrid.
Local authority sources said the husband was aged 90 and his wife was 86.
It is thought they both died from inhalation of smoke during the blaze.
They were pulled clear of the blaze by firefighters and taken to hospital, where they both were declared dead on arrival.
But the original cause of the fire was still unclear.
Eleven other elderly residents were rescued by fire fighters.
After fire fighters refused to re-entry the burning property, a police officer draped in a wet blanket dived back in after reports another person was still inside.
The officer found one of the pensioners unconscious and trapped in a bathroom.
He called to a colleagues for help to get the pensioner out of the building.
The other pensioners were not seriously injured in the blaze.
