PAMPLONA — A court ruled on Tuesday animal rights protestors can demonstrate against the Running of the Bulls in San Fermin next week - only if they wear underwear.

Naked protests by the American-based group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) have been staged against the famous festival in the town in northwest Spain in previous years.

PETA had asked for permission to stage a naked protest but the Pamplona city council turned it down.

The animal rights group appealed to a higher court.

The Superior Tribunal of Navarre ruled if the protestors staged a naked protest this could upset public order.

The festival, which was first made famous by Ernest Hemingway in his book The Sun Also Rises, is a popular attraction with tourists from across the world.
