President Barack Obama's top security adviser General James Jones met King Juan Carlos of Spain on Friday, the White House said.

MIAMI - Jones, who serves as Obama's National Security Adviser, "conveyed the president's warm regards to the King" National Security Council spokesman Mike Hammer said.

The Spanish king was in Miami to mark 450 years since Spain first established a base in the continental United States, at Pensacola, Florida.

Jones also met Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos to discuss Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq and preparations for G20 and NATO summits in April, Hammer said.

They also discussed the Middle East peace process.
