Spanish phone providers to up European roaming charges

Although mobile roaming fees were recently scrapped within the EU, Spain is the only country to retain such fees, which are about to go up.

The lower rates will not last forever. Expats phoning home will have to fork out more as Spanish operators up their roaming fees.

Spain is the only country which currently adds on an additional charge for calls between European countries – and the price is about to go up.

Currently standing at 20 cents a call, mobile providers Orange, Vodafone, Yoigo and Movistar are set to raise the cost by 10 percent to 22 cents, per call.
