VALENCIA - Nine people were injured on Friday when a van carrying fireworks blew up causing considerable damage.
Health officials said the seven other people injured were treated for minor injuries.
The van, which exploded around mid-day, was apparently transporting the material for use in firecracker and banger displays that accompany the traditional spring festival in Valencia, Spain's third-largest city.
The shock wave from the explosion, the cause of which has not yet been determined, shattered the glass windows of a home located near where the van was parked and also damaged the blinds and false ceilings of other nearby residences.
