CORDOBA — Police investigating the multi-million euro civil fraud scandal which led to the dissolution of Marbella city council arrested 27 people on Tuesday.
Former councillors in Marbella, property company bosses and promoters have been detained across Spain.
Among those arrested are the former Marbella council secretary Leopoldo Barrantes and the property developer Rafael Gómez Sánchez, who runs the building company Arenal 2000.
Gomez, who was arrested in Cordoba, has been accused of corruption by opposition political groups in the city before.
In April, 28 people were detained in the first part of an investigation into civil corruption endemic in Marbella city council.
Among those detained was the mayor, the head of urban planning and the local head of police.
The government in Madrid ordered the dissolution of Marbella city council, which is now being run by a management committee until municipal elections next year.
