BARCELONA - An aristocratic couple claim they are being forced to leave their home because of "electromagnetic radiation" produced by neighbours, it was reported Tuesday.
A court in Barcelona was examing claims by Mercedes Carandini and Javier Fontcuberta, marquises of Vilanova, near Barcelona, that they suffered dizziness and other physical problems because of their neighbours' cooker.
They also claim that they have suffered from other phenomena, including headaches and nausea.
The couple also said that the radio starts to play on its own, the hi-fi loudspeakers make strange noises and the TV and other equipment switch on and off on their own.
They claim these symptoms were caused by "electromagnetic radiation" which is transmitted by their neighbours' microwave.
The couple have launched a legal claim against the other couple for "threats and injuries".
Josep Majo, who is leading the investigation for the court, said inspections by the police and other experts had so far been unable to find anything to support the claims.
Prosecutors are investigating whether radiation from a microwave in the flat above could have caused the alleged problems.
The case, which was reported in Tuesday's edition of the El Periodico newspaper, is thought to centre on a row between neighbours who had fallen out.
