MADRID - Rafa Nadal moved on to the quarterfinals at the Australian Open on Sunday with a 6-4, 3-0 win over Frenchman Paul Henri Mathieu.

The Spaniard needed just 50 minutes to knock 25-year-old Mathieu out of the tournament, equalling his personal best set last year in the Australian competition. The Frenchman put his defeat down to a leg injury. "I couldn't run, it was impossible," he told reporters.

The Spaniard now goes on to face Jarko Nieminen of Finland.
